Updated Debian 9: 9.3 released

The Debian project is pleased to announce the third update of its stable distribution Debian 9 (codename stretch). This point release mainly adds corrections for security issues, along with a few adjustments for serious problems. Security advisories have already been published separately and are referenced where available.

Debian has a "newcomer" bug tag, used to indicate bugs which are suitable for new contributors to use as an entry point to working on specific packages. There are 210bugs available tagged "newcomer".

The Reproducible Builds Summit 2017took place between October 31 and November 2 2017. Debian has participated together with other free software distributions and projects in order to continue working in providing a verifiable path from software source code to its compiled binary form.

The Debian Cloud team gathered in a Sprintfrom 16 to 18 October 2017, to resolve some of the open issues that were discussed at the cloud sprint 2016 and the Cloud BoF discussion session at Debconf17.

if you use debian 9 (but not KDE) you will have noticed that writer (libreoffice) has serious problems.

A very simple way to run your writer is:
enter the libreoffice configurations and disable the 'java machine'.

The Debian Installer team announced the first alpha release of the installer for Debian 10 "Buster". Installer CDs, other media and everything else you will need to try it and help finding bugs are available at the Debian Installer web page.

The Free Software Foundation Europe has recently launched the campaign"Public Money, Public Code", to request the implementation of legislation requiring that publicly financed software developed for the public sector be made publicly available under a Free and Open Source Software licence.

Debian Astro was released last June together with Debian "Stretch". Let's help to make Debian Astro 1.0 known to the astronomy community!
